How to cancel Zendesk before it auto-renews

Zendesk subscriptions renew on their own for the same length of term. The Zendesk Customer Agreement says that stopping the renewal takes written notice at least 30 days before the term ends, sent by email to [email protected]. Your order form can set different terms, so check it first.

- Email [email protected] to say you do not intend to renew. The agreement names that address. (source)
- By when
- At least 30 days before the subscription term ends, unless your order form says otherwise. An online order counts as an order form. (source) (source)
- If you miss it
- The subscription renews for an equivalent term, and Zendesk may apply its then-current rates. (source)
- Cancelling early
- Cancelling the account before the term ends does not end what is owed: the agreement says the rest of the term is still payable. (source)
Work out your last day to cancel
Enter your renewal date from the order form. The Zendesk Customer Agreement says 30 days. Change it if your order form says something else.
Check your order form
The public terms are the default. Your order form, or a contract you signed, can override them, and it decides your deadline. Look for:
- The subscription term and whether it renews.
- A notice period that replaces the 30 days.
- Who notice goes to and how.
- The price that applies at renewal.

What Zendesk’s published terms say
Each quote below is copied from Zendesk’s own site. Each one carries the date we checked it, and a quote older than 90 days puts a warning at the top of this page until it is checked again.
“Unless either party provides at least 30 days’ prior written notice of its intent not to renew, or the Order Form states otherwise, the Subscription Term will automatically renew for an equivalent term and Zendesk may apply then-current rates. Customer must send an email to [email protected] to notify Zendesk of its intent not to renew.”
““Order Form” means a generated order form or online ordering document or process completed, including any pricing information in Supplemental Terms, for the Services agreed between Zendesk and Customer.”
“If Zendesk terminates the Agreement under Section 7.3 or if Customer cancels its account before the end of the Subscription Term, Customer will pay any unpaid amounts covering the remainder of the Subscription Term.”
